Anderson enjoys perfect Premier League start in Aberdeen
Gary Anderson returned to his homeland of Scotland on Thursday evening as the 2020 PDC Premier League commenced in Aberdeen. After a move to the brand new P&J Arena just across the city, 7000 fans were packed into the brand new arena to see the opening night of the season.
‘The Flying Scotsman’ faced an out of form Darryl Gurney, but with the head to head records tied at eight a piece the Northern Irishman would’ve fancied his chances.
It was a perfect start for Anderson as he nailed double ten, last dart in hand to take the lead. Gurney then repeated the feat as both players settled with holds of throw.
The Scot edged back ahead on double eighteen with Gurney once again waiting on a double with Gurney following suit to stay in touch. In a game of consistent scoring and tight doubling, the pair would exchange blows once again leaving the score tied at 3-3.
Gurney would then take the lead for the first time in the contest, Anderson squandering three darts at double ten. He then had a chance to open up a two leg advantage, but wasted four darts at double with Anderson swooping in on double one to stay in touch.
A timely 12 dart leg from Anderson left him just one leg from victory on his homecoming, Gurney nowhere to be seen. He would eventually seal the victory in spectacular fashion, taking out a 104 finish to get maximum points on the board after night one.
Anderson returns to take on World Cup of Darts teammate and reigning World Champion Peter Wright in Nottingham next week as he looks to continue his perfect start to his 2020 Premier League campaign.
