Gary Anderson suffered a defeat to Gerwyn Price in the final week on league phase action but will contest the four man play-offs at London’s o2 Arena in October.
A 110 checkout secured a strong hold of throw as the two players exchanged blows in the opening couple of legs. But then next couple of legs would go the way of a rampant Gerwyn Price.
The back to back Grand Slam of Darts champion would pile the pressure on his play-off changing counterparts as he upped his average to the mid tones and established a healthy lead over the Scotsman.
We would see a champagne 170 checkout from Anderson to momentarily reduce the deficit, just the third maximum checkout we have seen during the campaign. But two legs later the win was logged under the name Gerwyn Price as the Welshman kept his faint play-off hopes alive with a 107.70 average on the final night of action. But is was Nathan Aspinall who would sneak into that final spot, setting up a tie with Peter Wright at the o2 Arena.
Anderson will now face league phase winner Glen Durrant on October 22nd for the right to face either Wright or Aspinall in the 2020 Premier League final.
