Gary Anderson all but confirmed his spot in the play-off places with a third consecutive win over Michael Smith on Thursday evening.

‘The Flying Scotsman’ defeated the former World Youth Champion in the World Matchplay semi-finals and earlier in the Premier league season during phase one in Milton Keynes.

Smith was in need of maximum points to put his name back in the mix, but the two points for Anderson all but confirms his spot in the top four and therefore at the o2 Arena’s play-offs in October.

A stunning 154 checkout from the two-time Premier League champion set the tone for Anderson in a match that he dominated. Despite Smith outscoring his opponent in the 180’s column, the relentless treble hitting and double percentage was too much for Smith to stay with.

Anderson secured the victory with a simple 94 checkout as he can how go into the final two matches knowing that his play-off spot is all but secured.
