Chris Dobey secured his place In round three at the Alexandra Palace as he battled back to see off a resilient Ron Meulenkamp on Thursday evening.

The Geordie thrower was quick of the blocks, taking out finishes of 89, 80 and then a 94 to steal the advantage early on with a 100% record on the outer ring.

It continued to go smoothly for Dobey as he his fine display on the doubles continued into the second set of the match. Another 80 checkout was quickly scribbled out as ‘The Bomb’ took out a ton plus of his own, but that would be all as Dobey went within a set of the last 32.

Meulenkamp exploded into life as three darts at double four were squandered from Dobey, the Dutchman cleaning up on double ten, eventually halving the deficit.

The unseeded player would continue his rampage in the fourth set, firing into a two leg advantage. Two legs later Dobey would be in all sorts of trouble as this high quality encounter went to a deciding set.

The pair would exchange blows as the match went into a tie-break, both players producing their best darts at the pivotal moments. A sixth maximum from Dobey followed by a double four would put him one away from victory.

Victory was then confirmed as ‘Hollywood’ nailed the outer ring after missed darts at the double from Meulenkamp, Dobey coming through a five set thriller to book his place in the fourth round.
