Chris Dobey was unable to repeat last years Premier League heroics as he was defeated by Daryl Gurney on his second time as a challenger in the tournament.

‘Hollywood’ clinched a 6-6 draw with Mensur Suljovic in last years iteration of the tournament as he made his debut in Newcastle, but couldn’t repeat the feat in Milton Keynes.

With Gurney’s Premier League status under threat, the Northern Irishman was quick out of the blocks immediately putting Dobey under pressure. With the previously played World Matchplay under the belt of Gurney it seemed although adapting to the environment proved to be a big factor for Dobey.

Whilst not scoring heavily, Gurney would show enough consistency to keep reeling off the legs as Dobey soon found himself in an uncompromising position. The North East star would break the Gurney throw before the night was out, but that was to be all as ‘Super Chin’ creeped over the line, getting his first win in the 2020 PDC Premier League.
