Dunvegan Darts’ Chris Dobey was defeated 10-4 by James Wade in round two of the Ladbrokes Masters.
Dobey, making his debut at this event, could not get going on the outer ring, as his campaign came to an end in the last 16.
Three holds of throw saw Wade take an early 2-1 advantage, before Hollywood missed tops to level. The Machine punished, hitting double 16 to get the break and go 3-1 in front, before a 116 out saw him extend his lead to 4-1 at the first interval.
Both missed darts for the sixth, before Dobey hit double five to cut the gap to 4-2. However, he then missed three opportunities to get the break back, as Wade eventually found double six to go three legs in front. Back to back 14 darters gave The Machine a 7-2 lead, but a fantastic 108 checkout from Hollywood kept him in the game at 7-3.
Sadly for Dobey, he could not use that checkout as a spring board after the second interval. Wade won three of the next four legs, eventually hitting the contest on double 10 to claim the victory.
While disappointing for Chris, he will be back in action at the next PDC event looking to pick up his first title. Dunvegan’s other representative, Gary Anderson, gets his campaign underway later today. He’s first on in this evening’s session, facing Adrian Lewis.
