Gary Anderson suffered his first defeat of the Premier League season as Glen Durrant’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season remained in tact.
Both players had secured one win and a draw in their opening two games, but it was Durrant who claimed the advantage on night three in Cardiff.
It was a strong start from the Middlesbrough man as he leaped into a 3-0 advantage early on with checkouts on double one and then 85 in leg two.
The deficit was reduced in leg four as Anderson finally found the double bed to keep himself in the mix, but a heart-breaking 107 checkout from ‘Duzza’ ensured he kept a three leg cushion.
One way traffic continued as Durrant stretched his lead to 5-1 with Anderson all but out of the contest. There was a moment of revival for ‘The Flying Scotsman’ as he hammered home a 122 checkout followed by a 64 to make it back to back legs.
Two more holds of throw kept the minimal hopes of a point alive for Anderson, but Duzza would put the final nail in the coffin as he went top of the Premier League despite a solid performance from the Scotsman.
The two-time World Champion Anderson will take on last years Premier League runner-up Rob Cross in Dublin as both players look to get back on the winners podium.
