Gary Anderson suffered a second round defeat at the hands of Jason Lowe despite some more monstrous averages from ‘The Flying Scotsman’. The former champion of the world has produced mixed results on the tour, but following a 6-2 win over Scott Mitchell in round one with a 102.8 average, was unlucky to be knocked out in round two.

Jason Lowe was the beneficiary of his misfortune, and would go on to make the last 16. But Anderson will know more performances averaging well into the ton, will see him remain at the World Matchplay next weekend.

Chris Dobey took a major blow in his quest for the World Matchplay as he was ousted by Simon Whitlock in Saturday’s opening round. The Bedlington thrower has produced a skin saving quarter-final run on Friday, but could not reproduce that run as he was seen off in a last leg decider by ‘The Wizard’.

Two stars of the Dunvegan stable also clashed in round one as Cameron Menzies took on Mark McGeeney. The latter had managed to get over the first hurdle on two occasions already this week, whilst Menzies had shown plenty signs of promise.

In a topsy-turvy encounter where both players scored heavily in patches, it was the former BDO World Finalist that closed out the victory, rattling home a 150 checkout to secure a 6-3 victory.
Unfortunately for McGeeney he was unable to reproduce that performance in round two as he bowed out against Keegan Brown.

Finally, it would be a day to forget for Adam Hunt as he exited in round one at the hands of Lisa Ashton, with the Lancashire Rose claiming her first win in the Summer Series.
