Dunvegans’ Gary Anderson suffered another setback in his race to qualify for the Premier League Darts Play-Offs.

The two time winner of the event suffered an 8-3 defeat to Portugal’s Jose De Sousa to remain in eighth spot in the table.

De Sousa won the first two legs, before Anderson missed three darts to break straight back in the third leg. It allowed De Sousa to find a 60 checkout to hold and go 3-0 up.

The fourth leg saw both miss darts to take the leg, but it was The Special One who hit double nine to go a double break in front. An 88 finish on the bull saw him increase his lead before Anderson got on the board in the sixth leg. He eventually found double five to cut the gap to 5-1.

Both held in the next two legs, and in the ninth leg, The Flying Scotsman got one of the breaks back finding a lovely 90 checkout on double nine to reduce the arrears at 6-3. The Special One though hit double five to regain the double break and then a 68 checkout to seal the victory.

It’s not the best start for The Flying Scotsman this week, but there are still plenty of points to play for. Anderson will continue his Premier League Darts campaign on Thursday 6th May, against fellow Scotsman Peter Wright. The match is scheduled to be third on at around 8.30pm BST.
